This whole week I've been craving simple, childhood meals, maybe it's the baby. Here's a super easy recipe for Sloppy Joes. I had ground turkey on hand so that's what I made it with - also making it lower in calorie than the traditional recipe! You can make it in a regular pot but I love using my crock pot as much as possible. I think I'd rather have that smell permeating throughout my house all day than a scented candle!
Ingredients:
1 lb ground turkey
1 onion, chopped
2 garlic cloves, diced
1/2 cup tomato paste
1/3 cup brown sugar
2 cups canned crushed tomatoes
3 tbspn apple cider vinegar
2 tbspn worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 tsp seasoning salt
1 tsp salt
1/2 tsp pepper
Saute onions in a skillet over medium heat until soft, then add the garlic and cook for another 30 seconds. Add ground turkey and break up with a wooden spoon. Cook until the pink is gone from the turkey.
Add meat mixture to the crock pot with the rest of the ingredients. Cook on low for 6 to 7 hours. Serve on a hamburger bun with any side of your choosing (today I made french fries).
P.S. what do you think of my new blog design? The wonderful Polly at This Enchanted Pixie designed it for me! I'm super excited about it!
